SCANDY

The Scandy pattern is to Aller Vale as Cottages are to Watcombe. It was designed at Aller Vale and became their trademark pattern for mottoware from around 1900. Other potteries also used it mainly Longpark, Watcombe and H&M Exeter.

The pattern itself could have been derived form the Art Nouveau pattern of a seed or flower head opening, revealing the leaves or flower within.

Although the name “Scandy” itself does not have a definitive documented origin.
