Art Deco is said to have began in Paris, early in the 20th century and was in fashion mainly between the two World Wars. It is an eclectic style that combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials.
The style was influenced by the use of geometric and angular shapes and the popular use of chrome, glass and mirrors with images of nature motifs, shells, sunrises or flowers that in part drew some influence from the previous art nouveau styles. Art Deco generally discarded any flowing organic shapes and pastels for the bolder use of colours together with space, angles and geometry. For art deco page
