Pots frequently have 2 codes on the base, one is a pattern code the other is a shape number.
This page records a survey that I carried out amongst Torquay Pottery Collectors Society members 20 years ago.
I expect that they must still be relevant today and are worth re-publishing.
The survey recorded the proportion of pattern codes in collections, not surprisingly the Scandy pattern, N1, was most numerous at nearly 27%, with the Kerswell Daisy pattern, I4, second at 9%. The full list is below, we expect to produce a new page soon showing examples of all these codes. Other codes may exist on pots in your collection, please let us know by contacting info@torquaypottery.co.uk
We are very grateful to a correspondent to this site for a wonderful set of photographs, at the foot of this page, which illustrate nearly all of these patterns, please help us find the few missing patterns.
