The Lownds-Pateman family had a long association with the Torquay potteries supplying small scent filled bottles made by several of the Torquay potteries for the West Country tourist industry. Much later Leslie Lownds-Pateman bought and moved the business to the Babbacombe Pottery site in 1997. They made various pomanders, a number of large cats and various multicoloured cockerels to name a few items. For a few years until it closed early in 2000 the pottery at Babbacombe was run by Brian Lownds-Pateman. The business was reformed elsewhere in Torquay and has traded as the B L P Collection since 2001, but is now known as The Babbacombe Pottery Collection producing a fine range of ceramics still made and hand painted in the traditional way in Torquay.
